I found this interesting item and decided to share it here.  Basically, it's a glass news slide sponsored by a bank that would have been shown in movie theaters, places for public gatherings, etc.  It dates to August, 1917.

. Several posts back I said that I was waiting for some wartime photos of German soldiers stationed at an old water mill now owned by British friends.  I am not really familiar with German uniforms or insignia but from what small detail was shared along with the photographs it appears they were part of the TODT organisations which oversaw defensive bunkers and groundwork trenches etc,  note in the one photograph the assembled shovels, stacked similar to a rifles stack.   The soldier that visited my friends for one last final visit a couple of years ago is seen laying centre front of the assembled group of soldiers.           Norman D. Well that’s a bummer. Who knows what neat stuff is lost to the ages? Barriers like that are not an option on a city residential street in my situation.  Some of the salvagers around here leave a pretty big mess when digging through the piles. I have to be extra cautious of loose nails  and whatever as I drive through the neighborhood. 

I’ve had several genuine WWII USN klaxons, Benjamin and Federal. I still have a Benjamin dated March 1940 identical to an H8 long projector (on horns, projector is called a bell) type I’ve seen in sub museums. However my 1940 is marked “A4” with no USN acceptance etched on. I don’t know if it’s Army, merchant fleet or what else. I’ll add a photo later. Any thoughts?

Hi mikie,   sadly all municipal dumps forbid any salvaging of pieces thrown in the village dumpsters, there have been many WWII finds pulled out by various collectors over the years, no-more, if it's metal its melted down again, if it's combustable it's burnt in furnaces, history lost and forgotten . . . . . .  ' safety ' barriers have been erected in front of all the dumpsters, these prevent any extractions . . . . . . .        Norman D.
