Thank you. Its one of my favorite item's I have found in a while and that's including some of the Admiral and General stuff I have had over the past 8 months. I can't imagine that units like this had a lot of personnel in them.

There was one listed for sale by The Horse Soldier in Gettysburg, PA recently.  As a reference on the medal, they suggested " For further information on the Custer medal itself, we suggest Beckendorf’s article in North South Trader (2005) Vol. 31, No. 1."  They are so scarce I don't think there is too much information readily available about them.

This is a new to me wing. Meyer incised shield and sterling mark. I believe this is what is considered a first pattern.

Justin, thanks so much for your effort in looking him up! I think we can completely confirm that is him. I found this document based on what you found that confirms naval construction, reserves, naval aircraft factory in Philadelphia. This lines up with what is written on his uniform tags. I’ll do some more digging on this. 

Did anyone ever contact the Gwiazda family? My husband was his neighbor in Phila. 

I think that pin is 100% right, perhaps the fastener is just a replacement.

Here's a dog tag to a soldier at the 15th Port HQ Trans Corps. From Altoona PA
