I have learned a lot from you - and there is Not a lot of info out there on this one, as you well know!   I believe now as well that there are two types, the first type is smaller than the second 'strike,' and also that Marines who had 'been there' somehow purchased examples these through the decades. Also, that there have been many fakes.    I hope your research is progressing - there are some like who truly appreciate you attempts.   John

Believe it or not when they are seen worn with a flight suit, you often see them worn UNDER the flight suit. Wearing it under the flight suit protected it from oil and grease.  Easier to replace a flight suit than a leather flight jacket.  Also the WWII USN flight jacket you refer to was the M-422A,  A G-1 was a post war Navy flight jacket.   This image is from a thread from another Forum, just posted today.
