Great patch!  So if the ID on the back is accurate (303rd FS of the 337th FG), this was a training unit stationed mostly at Sarasota, FL, obviously with the 3rd AF, 1942-44.  Maurer has its brief history on pg. 367 of "Combat Squadrons...."  So the other variations are of the same cartoon character, but Navy units.

The buckle was the personal property of the Lae Colonel Roger HJ. C. Donolon, 1st Vietnam MOH recipient.

Bill Millin famous for playing his bagpipes during the D-Day landings and immortalised in the 1960's film ' The Longest Day ' travelled with us back in 1976.   That summer was one of the hottest on records and we visited Paris, when I tried to start my motor the starter motor went in and stuck due to the excessive heat, and Bill jokingly walked around the Jeep playing a Scottish lament. Whoa, 4STARCHRIS, now that fact adds immeasurably to the excellence of that buckle. Since I was just a dumb a_ _ grunt in Vietnam I have, of course, read about the late Colonel and his awesome exploits.
