Great patch! So if the ID on the back is accurate (303rd FS of the 337th FG), this was a training unit stationed mostly at Sarasota, FL, obviously with the 3rd AF, 1942-44. Maurer has its brief history on pg. 367 of "Combat Squadrons...." So the other variations are of the same cartoon character, but Navy units. -

. Hi mikie, Here's another veteran recount. Bill Millin famous for playing his bagpipes during the D-Day landings and immortalised in the 1960's film ' The Longest Day ' travelled with us back in 1976. That summer was one of the hottest on records and we visited Paris, when I tried to start my motor the starter motor went in and stuck due to the excessive heat, and Bill jokingly walked around the Jeep playing a Scottish lament. Whoa, 4STARCHRIS, now that fact adds immeasurably to the excellence of that buckle. Since I was just a dumb a_ _ grunt in Vietnam I have, of course, read about the late Colonel and his awesome exploits. -
