Very interesting Considering, I was just reading through a stack of letters from a Navy Carrier Pilot who mentioned he could not write any detail about his unit, actions or a Recent Recommendation for DFC but he was keeping a SERVICE Diary he could share later I placed an opening bid and if it wins it will be a nice example (service diary) to add with the letter -

There was a Leinbach clothing store in Reading, Pa. Could be where the vet was born, somewhere in Pa. What are the names of the other theaters? -

As P-59A stated, this is the USGI version of the Buck/Phrobis III M9. The 4-line versions are the most common seen, the early production had 3-line markings with different variations. The prices on these Buck Knives made Phrobis III M9's have gone up a lot over the past several years. One in this condition could bring $250-$300 on ebay these days. Very collectible. M9 bayonets are an entire collecting field in themselves. -

You can join ASMIC. There is always an article about a new patch when it has gotten approved and issued. As to older examples like VN era, that is an ongoing learning curve. The SSI or patches really got their start in WWI. During WWII there was a rise in unofficial variations. -

This is a great show. I attended it two years ago while visiting friends in Mesa. I enjoyed myself immensely and picked up a couple of great items. Have a great time, everyone! mikie -

Thanks Ken. Yes General Holland Smith on Saipan 1944... Interesting to see him in dungarees, and note his helmet has a net rather than the regulation camo cover.... Great photo of the Jeep and bonnet stencil. I wish it was in colour! Cheers Graham -

It really makes you wonder how much history and how many artifacts have been lost forever due to these types of instances. Luckily, this new owner told the right person! Congratulations and great display!! -

brown paper backs are usually an even bigger red flag. It usually means the patch is korean made, most likely post war.
