@Celia Nice buckle! Thank you for sharing pictures of it. Unfortunately I can't help you with what "Pusch" means. Usually someone has their name engraved in the spot where "Pusch" is at. Maybe it was a nickname your father's shipmates gave him? The 45 47 suggests that this was an end-of-tour buckle made in 1947. What years was your father in the Navy? Do you know what ships your father was on? Clearly the USS PRESIDENT JACKSON (APA-18) is not the ship engraved. I know of one other buckle (two years earlier) from 1945 with the same ship engraved. There's a possibility that the ship is just a generic rendition of an idealized navy ship rather than an actual rendition of the ship he served on. -

Too bad it was split apart and the flag and chit sold separately. Why bother with that if you're not gonna split the whole thing up? Any closer pics of the WWI wing? -

MR_ZAM, thank you for sharing this. The 1/1 between the B, and N and the shorter webbing w/o the 1910 wire hook does indicate an earlier example of the M8 sheath. Looking forward to what others have about the knife itself. -

Very nice uniform, the prewar uniforms are (in my opinion) nicer than wartime. The material is heavy and has a nice color, along with a flair of old fashioned hold over style. -

Can you find any sign of marking on the guard? Pictures of the knife might help. -

Small world, I spent the last months of my enlistment at Bergstrom from 76-77. Assigned to 67 AMS and spent a few months working out of 91 TRS doing mechanical eval of photo systems. -

Wow, recalled for WWII? Any idea why someone of his age would be recalled? -

I appreciate your post, again these are all just things I’ve heard from other people. I obviously don’t have my experiences. And also to your point about it being insulting saying it was for people without a path, so did not mean that In a Negative light, that’s just what I’ve been told and have seemed to gather from others. None of what I said was to be insulting, I’m just saying that it’s what I’ve heard and was really wondering if that was how it was, I’m also guessing since you guys were in. I really don’t know, I want to check it out as a serious option and am wondering what to pursue, and what you have experienced. Also thanks Rakkasan, that answered a good amount of my questions. Thanks! -

Ok so I’m quite inexperienced in this but I have done a little research…. I’ve learned from this forum that the scabbard is US issue and potentially pre 1944. The knife however is not! I finally managed to read the engraving by the guard- astier prodos thier A French trench combat knife which may be a WW1 piece. I just wish I could see the story of how a French fighting knife from WW1 ended up in a bayonet scabbard from WW2 and then ended up in a shed in the center of the UK…. If I am wrong about any of these details or if anyone knows better/more then please let me know. I’m fascinated by this find.
