Well, as I said we don’t know exactly when straight blades became the fashion. I use that word deliberately because in the military custom is actually more important than acknowledged anywhere officially. Most likely people were doing it before it was official spec then it was baptized later, especially since the French were doing this earlier than the US. The other complicating factor is that in the 20th century, specs were effectively hidden by being in documents only accessed by manufacturers and thus if preserved are buried who-knows-where. In other militaries some of these changes have a better paper trail.

These were notorious for breaking down once the leather stayed wet after repeated field use. Especially where the belt wire was located as well as the retaining snap and where the leather strap and scabbard met. Basically, wherever the leather was subjected to repeated bending and stresses!

Congrats on acquiring this top of the line group.   The head band is priceless.

I've got one of these with an open "C" catch instead of the roller catch.

Here’s his TS headband made from the brim of a cutdown boonie. He wore this frequently! Attached are some photos of him wearing the headband. The peace sign photo is from 1-0 graduation and the other is from a mission in Cambodia. Neither photo is mine, one shared by SOA and the other by a veteran.

Hey Martin,    Thank you for the kind words! The jackets are all named to the vet but the tigerstripe pants have “Crimm” written as well as the vet’s name. I’ve wondered if these were first worn by Mike C r i m m i n g s who was a Canadian volunteer in CCS.    Feel free to post your SCU top! I always love seeing them, though, there aren’t a ton out there to be seen on the forum. Half of what is in the threads seems to be from a dealer who, “turned to the dark side” to say it as another forum member has.

I just bought this M-6 scabbard with M-3 knife . It was from the estate of a well known firearms and edged weapons collector. I have seen many M-6 scabbards but have never seen one with metal reinforcement at bottom and at top. Can anyone help identify? Is this a prototype? Thanks

Was that style Honorable Discharge Emblem still being used post-WW2?
