Real neat! I have seen a few cut grenades but never with a folding cover. Great piece! -

It looks to me like a Chinese or Pakistani "fantasy" piece. I doubt it has any military connection. -

Hello, Nice start to a collection. This plate is in typical condition of plates found within the last 30-40 years approximately. Most of these plates usually have a little rim damage. Plates exposed to 100+ years of freeze and thaw cycles will have damage like this. The plate edges start to crack over time and pieces fall off. Plus, it can be from plow or modern ground disturbances as pointed out. Your plate has a slightly different patina. It may have been briefly exposed to fire. But this is just speculation. The 'arrowhead' hooks have a crusty appearance, but it could also be deposits. The earlier plates have what are coined 'puppy paw' hooks. In my guesstimate, the North started making the 'arrowhead' plates sometime mid 1862 until the end of the war. I know a few have turned up at Antietam (Sept 1862) but most plates found there are 'puppy paw' type plates. I am using this battle to explain my 'guesstimate'. Anyway, good luck in your collection. cheers! -

Just picked this up. FS/SB USN helmet in salty grey. Marking could be LO or 40 I’m not sure. Any help that you may provide will be appreciated. -

Not US government contract M8A1 sheath. The sheath body is injection molded plastic. All official contract sheaths have manufacture ID marks on them. -

Honestly it could have been a number or thing's. However most of the time no one wants it or it doesn't mean anything to them so they get rid of it. If I had a $1 for every time I have been asked that question I would be able to retire LOL. -

Very nice. Thanks for sharing. I always wonder why one of the kids didn’t want it. Unless dad sold it on his own.
