This is a great start and thank you so much for the info BEAST. The jacket is from a fairly local former collector and we are only about 2 hours from Fort Wayne. I would certainly like to learn more if you are able to find anything. If Marine promotion was anything like Army promotion I would guess Mr. Wonders served for a while as he was a Sergeant when he used this blouse. Thank you again.      Scott

thanks ATB.     Aside from the subdued cloth insignia,  are you also referring to the metal insignia for those same dates?

Outstanding story!!!  You've done very well in the preservation of this inscription.  Can't say the same for his grandson, but don't give up just yet. Great post! Thanks.     Steve

Just picked this AAF C1 Survial vest at the Forks of the Delaware show in Allentown PA. this weekend.  Made by Sears, allsnaps are present as is the holster. Can anyone help me with acquiring all the parts that go in the pockets. Empty boxes are OK. If you can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it!

Hello all, I thought I’d share a neat find that I discovered in my local cemetery. I never knew anything about it before now. I even know some of his descendants.

If anyone can help with this, all help is greatly appreciated. I've been wondering what some of these ribbons mean on my grandfather's portrait. I can't ask him about his service because he went through a seizure some time ago and now has dementia. I don't know if he has anything military related like the physical ribbon stack, uniform or documents anywhere in his room. So I'm relying on portraits and history passed down from my uncle.    According to what my uncle said, my grandpa's name is Phu Van Huynh. He finished high school in his home town, and he relocated to Saigon City and attended an Army Academy called Thủ Đức which was an infantry school according to google and Wikipedia. He also attended Delat, a Vietnamese national military academy he mainly studied for unit intelligence. The unit he was affiliated or served with, was named the Central Intelligence Office or CIO for short.    During the end of the war, or on April 30th, 1975 my grandpa refused to escape from helicopter in Saigon and was then taken by the Northern Vietnamese Army or NVA. From what I gathered from my conversation from my uncle, he didn't leave because he didn't want to leave his country. For twelve years, he remained captive as a prisoner of war till he was released from captivity. By February of 1994, the U.S. government created a program called the Orderly Departure Program back in 1979 and helped him along with the whole family to enter the United States. In the end, his service ended with him retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army. At least I think he retired as a LTC assuming he took that photo in uniform at the end of the war.    Because I have no physical evidence of papers stating he earned those ribbons or stating about his military service anywhere, I can only hope that I can find any evidence anywhere in the web with some help from this forum. I don't know if the units were accurate, I don't know if the military schooling he attended were 100% accurate, or if he was a POW for twelve years straight after the war. Also trying to identify these ribbons in the photo were difficult due to the colors at his time period.    Ribbon Stack Chart   knight ribbon (Senior Leadership, National Order of Vietnam), army second class ribbon, and the Vietnam service medal with three stars (I think?)   (no idea what that left side ribbon is), (no idea what that ribbon is), and the staff service medal (not sure if its first or second class)   good conduct medal third class, (no idea what the middle ribbon is), and the (no idea what that right side ribbon is)   (no idea what that left side ribbon is), air service medal (not sure if its first, second, or third class), and the republic of Vietnam gallantry cross (I think?)

I don’t think that the Atlantic Fleet bar good - looks like a 1960’s reproduction.   Bill

Got off plane at Elemendorf  AFB alaska in mid winter 73.  Was on Flight back to states from RTAFB Tahkli Thailand and dressed in just jungle fatigues.  Staff felt bad for me and gave me one of those fur parkas.   Have it still.
