For identification purposes, it may help to see the slot and its length, also if you have some calipers, the size of the “ring” on the inside. Some of these are distinguished by the barrel diameter it was meant to slip over. From the side view the slot looks too long to be the French 1842. -

It's definitely not from WW2. It's a ~1969 or later G1-Flight jacket with synthetic collar fur. USN stencil on the neck is not original. -

Mississippi Rifle bayonets tended to have scabbards of leather with brass fittings. I think it more likely this was made for and used used in Europe. -

Yes. That aged patina is highly valued by serious collectors. Polish will kill its collector value. Also, I got curious and it looks like the beehive is the trademark for Samuel Hoppe of Solingen, Germany. mikie -
