You're assuming it was the US postal that was culling things being sent home. Things were pilfered before they reached the states. -

I hate chiming in on things like, looks good is far from good. So lets start over on this. Is it a broken D bail or regular fixed bale? Measure the distance of the broken bails. I see in one of the photos what looks like a soldered repair to a bail. I'm not sure what I'm looking at. Next, if you think is a broken D bail what is the heat treat number on the pot? Figure that out first. -

Picked this up off Marketplace for a fair price, couldn’t turn down the eccentric camo job. Lots of color getting it out in the sun. Liner is good shape, missing chinstrap. Good to add another art helmet. -

This came out of the estate of a nam era navy vet. Bought on the last day for five dollars :) -

makes sense, I feel this one has more potential then others posted recently. then again I'm no expert, but it's kinda sad another opinions are being said on this because of the nature surrounding airborne helmets. -

This seller,kchicken13, seems to have a suspicious amount of engraved Zippos. He must have hundreds or thousands. They sell for alot of money and I've heard many suggest staying away. -

Heres a comparison I did of two Zippos. The one on the left is a 1969 Zippo that belonged to SP4 Mel Willsey. It came from a with his 11th ACVVC windbreaker from a friend who picked his estate. The one on the right is a fake I bought years ago when I didn't know how to authnricate Zippos. It's one of the common low-effort fakes. Comparing the two you can really start to see the differences. -

To be honest, painted airborne helmets have become almost taboo due to large amount of fakes. When one is posted, I'm pretty sure many of the experienced collectors skip the thread.
