I had a closer look at my recent photos today, and I think you are right!   In the image below you can clearly see a plugged hole of the correct size at the correct place. The other one isn't as clearly visible on the photo, but I think I see part of it. I will strip the primer there and re-drill those holes.         I already contacted Robert for a stamped frame tag and stencil set, awaiting his reply.         Sorry about your friend! Interesting jeep though, I never seen one with original Chinese data plates.

Hi all;   Long time no chat with.   However, I saw a medal today in a coin store that got me wondering.  It is a Navy Commendation Medal with a large service ribbon and a one piece lapel pin.  The medal itself has a "V" device on it, but the service ribbon does not have a corresponding "V" device.  The medal and service ribbon are crimp brooch.  Take a look and let me know what ya'll think.  And just for grins, what is something like this worth on a place like our For Sale section?

I got to thinking, and wondered if this should go into the “Is it Real ?” Section.

Zach, as the Indian War medal is M.No. prefixed, there is no roster for the medal. I have looked through all the record cards available with the name George Miller, and no card exists for George Miller, or any George Miller with various middle initials having applied for any medals. This is not surprising as many members of volunteer units were out of the service when the first medals were authorized in 1907-08. The roster for the 1st Montana would be part of the Montana National Guard records, so I would contact the Montana National Guard Museum for help with finding out more about George Miller's service information.

Started collecting US PASGT, MICH, and ACH helmets a few months ago. Iraq Militaria has a very helpful site. On the bottom of the website home page, you can find a helmet guide section.

I’m pretty sure it’s brass. What makes you say it’s silver? Could it be tarnished that badly?

I agree with Tod, this looks like a post-war restrike.  I have a good example of a gold 2-inch LGB Flight Surgeon that has the Balfour and Sterling marks struck with raised letters in incised rectangles. A similar wing is the LGB Flight Nurse shown on Bob's website.  I also have a 3-inch LGB Flight Surgeon where the wing in marked with incised LGB and 1/20 10K GF marks, but the attached caduceus has raised letter LGB and 1/20 10K GF marks set in an incised rectangle.   One of the 2-inch LGB-pattern Flight Surgeon on Bob's site has the incised letter LGB and Sterling marks. There is a second one just marker with an incised Sterling.  Bob also has a 2-inch LGB-pattern Flight Nurse on his site that is hallmarked Vanguard, so it appears they had LGB strike some wings for them as well at some point.

Officially, the standard length is 10 in.  Most however come in around 9 7/8", not 9 inches.  Of the few I have ( about 9 or 10), one is 9.5 inches the rest are 9 7/8 ".  I would think that an M1 with a 9" blade would be hard to come by.   Check out your scabbard for obstructions. Marv
