From looking at original photos, at least they look like the rim is bare metal. Here are the two images where I can see what looks to be unpainted helmet rims.

Agreed, This looks like something that would feed a tail gunner.

i believe this wing is part of a series of modern restrikes of the LGB/Balfour type. They are usually hallmarked LGB STER which is incorrect. They are well made. You can see one I posted in the "FAKE" thread, it gives you an idea on what to watch out for. Also note the similarity of the feather detail, which is not the same as original examples.

Actually that was not the majority. The majority during WWII actually had to blind the manufacturers hallmark to comply with procurement and distribution rules inn order not to reflect manufacturer favoritism. That is why you find some with the hallmarks ground out. You are correct that the majority were made out of sterling silver, which was not considered a strategic material, and therefore the majority were marked sterlng.

I hope no one thought I was referring to our fellow member as a "reneger."  He was a victim of a, apparently, well known CHEATER.  My point is/was most of us who are involved in multiple transactions in our "avocation"/passions will be reneged on.  Issue here is what does a reasonable or pragmatic "hobbyist" do about it.

Thank you both for your comments, That makes a lot more sense. And thoughts on where he was stationed is probably Pearl Harbor? Makes sense, but was the 7th AAF shipped out to the pacific in 1943? So would he had just stayed there  and just been still apart of the 7th AAF or would he have followed them through the pacific and possibly helped build runways in an EAB role instead of just at Pearl Harbor. Not trying to argue if that’s how it sounds. I really am genuinely new so I don’t know the possibilities and from other threads I’ve read there’s been some whacky things with uniforms. Thanks all, this has been very helpful!

I don't care for that large drop-in catch.  I seem to recall that on another wing that was in question here on the forum.

I would guess that its a fake as WW2 wings had the company hallmarks and metal content stamped into the back. I dont know if thats true for all ww2 wings but definately the majority. Looks like an LGB pattern...?

Doing great on ebay, well they were taking like 13-14 percent of the sale back when I was selling on there 4 years ago..... And if you sell enough, you get the good old 1099 and fork over a third of your profit to uncle Sammy. So doing good on ebay is debatable. Ive also found a lot of remarkable items and due to the seller listing them wrong, I was able to pick up some valuable items on the cheap. And I got burned a couple times like what happened to AMT500E. There was a guy on ebay selling meyer restrike wings. Letter wings Glider pilot and Service pilot wings. He had a whole bunch of each type. Was listing them as original WW2 wings for 99 bucks a piece. I wrote the guy told him he was selling fakes. No response.... Reported it to ebay several times.... Nothing happened. I just assumed that ebay did not want to cut their profit from the junk this guy was passing off as ww2 originals. I dont know? But not a thing was done to stop this guy.
