Not in the 1940 manual and I couldn't find a copy of the 1947. Here is what it states in the 1949 Marine Corps Manual: "Stars worn on the suspension ribbon or on the ribbon bar, of decorations and medals, shall be placed so that one ray of each star points down. The first star authorized to be worn on a ribbon shall be centered upon the ribbon. If more than one star is worn, they shall be placed in a horizontal line close to and symmetrically about the center of the ribbon." -

. School children today. I think maybe Johan, Solcarlus, earlymb will probably verify my statement here that every June school children are encouraged to visit the wartime cemeteries and place French and American flags at the base of every grave marker. Well today having a late morning coffee in Ste Mere Eglise a class of junior pupils and their teacher circled the square collecting dropped litter and they were happily laughing and engaged in doing so, learning civic pride at an early stage. Could have left the Army after WW1 and was recalled to active duty after Pearl Harbor. Hence no American Defense Ribbon. And if this uniform was worn like this prior to VE/J Day, no WW2 Victory Ribbon. Not saying this uniform is legit. Just saying what can be perceived as ribbon anomalies can frequently be explained. -

Any help would be appreciated. Appx 155 diameter. Super fine threads for whatever screwed into the top. Notice where the driving band sits. Shell is hollow. Almost like for smoke or gas. Thanks for looking! -

Dad enlisted in the 27th when it was still a National Guard division and served with it for the whole war, fighting on Eniwetok, Saipan and Okinawa. While he often told stories of him army days, it was only very rarely he mentioned his combat experiences. mikie
