Hello everyone, was recently searching through the random patch bin at a local surplus store and found the following. Looks to be either a bull/bison facing right with either the latin letters "I" and "U" superimposed or the greek letter "Ψ" Psi. Any help would be appreciated! -

Say thanks for your input. My original dia. measurement was with giant calibers at 8.5", measured with fabric tape it is 9.5" same as ebay canteen. My canteen body does not have concave depression on one side or any evidence of one. Leading me to figure this is a M-1878 oversized or desert canteen. But through your ebay tip I can conclude that the US army did have an oversize round canteen and what the neck should look like. Maybe written info about this canteen will come to light someday. Good luck with your collecting! -
