The 64th Cavalry Division was an Organized Reserve unit that spanned across 8 different states with its HQ in Lexington, Kentucky.  The coat in itself provides one clue in that it was tailormade in Boston, Massachusetts.  The HHT, 158th Cavalry Brigade, was based out of the Boston Post Building and under the command structure of the 64th Cavalry Division.  The 315th and 316th Cavalry Regiments assigned to the 158th Brigade were in close by states of Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.  The 158th Machine Gun Squadrons was also situated in Boston at the Commonwealth Armory.  You would have to assume that with the strong connections of both the 158th Cavalry Brigade and MachineGun Squadron with Boston and that the coat was manufactured in the same location the possibilities of it being from either organizations is plausible.  However, the 64th was in Cadre status and made up of primarily of officers that conducted their inactive meeting at various schools.  Although the 315th and 316th Cavalry Regiments had cadre troops in same states they had geographical jurisdictions that dicated which University/Academy they would be assigned.  2nd Sq, 315th Cavalry Regiment, was located at Massachusetts State College assisting in the ROTC program until 1929, when it returned back up to New Haven.   So, now there are three different possibilities of which unit the coat could had fell under especially with a dated tailor label of Dec 30, 1926.   Massachusetts Agricultural College, before being renamed Massachusetts State College, colors  happened to be red and blue originally but sometime in the 1880s maroon replaced red and the color white was added to the line up.  So, here we have most of the colors in the unknown shoulder insignia.   What was thought to be an eagles head in the patch design is likely one of eight Hawk species that either frequent or resides in the state of Massachusetts.  Without pictorial evidence yet I strongly lean towards it being the ROTC insignia worn by students at MSC... Where are the ROTC experts out there?

Now that you mention it, it might have been the co-pilot that came with the cap badge and rank and not the Whitehead and Hoag marked ones.  I'll have to go back and look at my pictures.  When you say the "old style findings" for the half wings, what do you mean?
