I don't think there is anything to research with this hat. I agree that it looks put together to deceive buyers. By the way, the pin is meant to represent 1st Recon Battalion of the USMC. -

VMI88, There's a possibility I hadn't considered. A lot of the stuff purchased by states for their National Guard was unmarked, especially in the late 19th/early 20th century. Thanks Alan -

I purchased this uniform recently and when I messaged the seller he mentioned he may have some paperwork and he would include any he finds. When I opened the box there was a stack of papers, including his original PH GO, wedding photos in uniform, discharge papers and most surprising of all, his PH. -

Yeah, it would be rare for infantry or LRRP’s to be fighting outside of their Division’s Area of Operations (Major exception: Tet). -

It's a smaller show, usually 25-30 dealers and 80-100 tables or so. We've been without a building for a year due to a road widening project adjacent to the fairgrounds. The building it will be in now is the expo hall which is the largest and newest on the fairgrounds. Hope to see more vendors(and customers) this time. How far away are you? Hope to see you there! I wouldn't be surprised if it did happen, but I would be similarly unsurprised if it was later rescinded to comply with the intent of the badge - to be awarded to infantrymen, not those who served in an infantryish capacity for some duration. -

Would any variant of the CIB have been awarded to airmen of the 17th Pursuit Squadron who fought as Army infantry in the Philippines? "On 8 December 1941, the Japanese launched a withering aerial attack on the Philippines which destroyed a large percentage of the US aircraft and facilities. This was followed by a land invasion. On 24 December 1941, the 17 Pursuit Squadron was moved from Nielson Field to Bataan. There they fought as infantrymen with remnants of other US units and Filipino troops and held off the Japanese for several months." https://pacificwrecks.com/units/usaaf/24pg/17ps.html
