This is a photo of my wife’s Great Uncle. According to family, he landed sometime on D Day. I have been able to determine from another photo that his rating was electricians mate. National Archives request returned no info and his direct family is in the wind. Based on this photo, he is heavily kitted out, with a rifle (Enfield maybe?) and helmet stripe. it also looks like he might have “USN” painted on the front of his jacket. From my initial research, he was likely attached to a Naval Beach Battalion in some capacity. Ultimately, we would like to determine exactly what unit he was assigned to and in turn get an idea of what his duties were that day, when he landed, where etc. Any help or resources would be greatly appreciated. -

Hopefully an ARCOM will be inserted soon. Then you'll need the Space Force versions. -

Press Release | March 26, 2025 Sailor Accounted For From WWII (Mandeberg, E.) WASHINGTON – The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced today that U.S. Navy Reserve Ensign Eugene E. Mandeberg, 23, killed during World War II, was accounted for on March 4, 2025. In the summer 1945, Mandeberg was a member of the Fighting Squadron 88, USS Yorktown. On August 15, while returning from a mission near Atsugi Airfield, Honshu, Japan, his formation was engaged with enemy fighter planes. Four of the six U.S. aircraft failed to return to the USS Yorktown and Navy officials reported Mandeberg as Missing in Action. His remains were not recovered or identified after the war. This is an initial release. The complete accounting of Mandeberg's case will be published once the family receives their full briefing. For additional information on the Defense Department’s mission to account for Americans who went missing while serving their country, visit the DPAA website at www.dpaa.mil or on social media at www.facebook.com/dodpaa, https://www.linkedin.com/company/dodpaa, https://www.instagram.com/dodpaa/, or https://x.com/dodpaa. -

Hi all, I've had this bayonet for years. Looked it up online & learned it's likely Taiwan bayonet. Marks on scabbard have been ground off. Of course I also some descriptions: EXTREMELY RARE, ETC. Everything online is extremely rare. The bayonet itself is parkerized. Also it does not have manufacturers mark. The only thing stamped on it are the following: Just under the finial: 60 - 6 O KS -

It could also be a military school sword. I once had a M1902 sword about this size that had the name of a military high school engraved on it. The "29" could be a rack number, but it also looks like the sword is about 29" long, so it could be a size as well. Whatever it is, I like it! -
